A 41.40% weekly range asks a once-a-day ETH sweep to justify its batch size
Should the payments company keep converting receipts into ETH in a single daily batch, or split and retime the sweep to avoid buying near the week's extremes?
The market facts are real; the decision maker is illustrative.
The week and the position
ETH opened the week of 11 July 2022 at 1,168.37 and closed at 1,338.65, a 14.57% gain inside a 41.40% range that ran from a Wednesday midday low of 1,006.32 to a late-Saturday high of 1,422.91, including a 10.12% best day, a 6.63% largest hour and 111.0% annualised realised volatility. ETH beat BTC by 14.87 points. Average 8-hour perpetual funding was -0.0011%, dipping to -0.0197%, and dollar volume was 12.11bn, above its prior 12-week average. An illustrative payments company converts customer receipts into ETH once a day, so each batch this week was priced somewhere inside that range.
Judgment
Keep the once-a-day batch. A 41.40% range with no repeatable daily path — a midweek low, then the best day on Saturday — means retimeing the sweep would replace a known, evenly spread cost with bets on individual days. Splitting the batch only helps if one day's receipts are large enough that a single fill moves the market; otherwise each extra conversion adds fees without changing the average price materially, and weekly dollar volume was 12.11bn. Do not route conversions through the perpetual to capture funding: -0.0011% per 8 hours is negligible and adds margin exposure at 111.0% volatility. Accept that some batches filled near 1,422.91.
What would change it
If the largest one-hour move, 6.63% here, repeatedly exceeds the price tolerance set on a day's receipts, split each day's sweep into smaller intraday batches. If funding turns firmly positive and persists, a perp-based conversion could be reconsidered, with margin sized against the week's 41.40% range.
What sets this case apart
This is a routine treasury sweep, not a trade: the question is whether one daily batch survives a 41.40% range, not which day to buy.
