A fixed crypto sleeve after an 8.56% week that is still 67.1% below the high

Should the allocator raise the fund's fixed crypto sleeve after this week's gain, or leave the sleeve unchanged and let the two holdings rebalance internally?

The market facts are real; the decision maker is illustrative.

The week and the position

In the week of 18 July 2022, BTC rose 8.56% to 22,579.68, ranking in the 81st percentile of its 231 weeks of history, on dollar volume of 30.43bn, 1.8 times its prior 12-week average. It closed in the middle third of its 16.93% range and remained 67.1% below its 52-week high, with realised volatility of 79.1% annualised. ETH gained 10.79 percentage points more, and the ETH/BTC ratio rose 9.94%. Funding averaged 0.0088% per eight hours, near flat. An illustrative allocator runs a small fixed crypto sleeve.

Judgment

An 81st-percentile week does not justify enlarging a sleeve sized for exposure rather than for timing. Keep the sleeve at its fixed weight and do not add to it, while accepting that a further rally is missed. Let the fixed-weight rule trim BTC towards ETH at the next rebalancing date rather than acting on the ratio move mid-week, since the two moved in the same direction with 0.84 correlation and the split is a rebalancing detail, not a signal.

What would change it

If the sleeve's drift pushes its weight above its stated ceiling before the next rebalancing date, trim to the ceiling. If a week closes above the 24,276.74 high on volume at or above 1.8 times the prior 12-week average, the case for reviewing the ceiling returns.

What sets this case apart

This is a sizing and rebalancing question inside a fixed allocation, not a forecast, even though the week's return ranks high historically.
