A +15.76% week with three losing weeks behind it tests a fund's re-entry rule
Should the fund rebuild ETH exposure at the week's close, or wait for a second confirming week before lifting its loss-limit cut?
The market facts are real; the decision maker is illustrative.
The week and the position
In the week of 19 July 2021, ETH rose 15.76%, from 1,891.65 to 2,189.79, closing in the upper third of its 28.93% range after an early-week low of 1,706.00 on Tuesday. Three of the four prior weeks were down (-11.64%, +17.17%, -7.85%, -11.63%). An illustrative fund had cut exposure when its fixed loss limit was hit. Volume was 10.04bn, only 0.49 times the prior 12-week average, and ETH still sat 49.46% below its 52-week high.
Judgment
Rebuild only a pre-set fraction at the weekly close, sized so a repeat of the 3.85% Monday loss cannot trip the limit again immediately. The week's 15.76% gain is real but rests on volume below half its 12-week average, and three of the four prior weeks closed lower. Accept missing part of a further rally rather than returning to full size on the close of a single strong week.
What would change it
If a later week prints volume above the prior 12-week average while price holds above this week's close of 2,189.79, the fund can raise exposure towards full size. A close back below the 1,891.65 open reverses the rebuild.
What sets this case apart
This concerns sizing a rebuild after a loss-limit cut, on a strong week with weak volume, not forecasting direction.
